Anyone that is familiar with my past works (see www.solsticearts.com ) will notice that this site contains works that are very different in style, technique, and subject. What you will find here are new pieces that are a reflection of my personal passion to create something truly original in concept all the while maintaining my deep love for realism. Since I can remember, the visual arts has been a large part of who I am... and with that, possessing a deep desire to create something of beauty and significance that will last beyond my existence here...
C. S. Lewis once said that he believed in God like he believed in the sun: “Not because I can see him, but because by him I can see everything else.” For me, my place in the visual arts are an extension of that thought... It means two things to me as an artist: First, I can hope to gain personal clarity in my own “vision” of values within an artistic culture of such confusing expression. Secondly, that perhaps, through my extended body of work, I can express a world view that gives some hope to others by the art which I create... not a hope within itself, but that it gives a true reflection of the source of that which is truly hope.
On the same line of thought I like what songwriter T- Bone Burnett was quoted as saying in the L. A. Weekly... “If Jesus is the light of the world, there are two kinds of songs you can write. You can write songs about the light or you can write songs about what you can see from the light...” This is what I try to do in the visual arts... in other words not necessarily in terms of “religious” imagery, but in work that is reflective of a Christ centered world view... the duality of both the fallen nature of man and the reality of hope of having a renewed and restored nature. As an artist, I am compelled to express this in subtle and sometimes not so subtle ways. In so doing, I am faced with the pleasure, as well as the responsibility, to bring a visual stimulus that inspires truth, reality and hope.
